Obituary: Maureen M. Aronson of Danbury

She earned her Bachelor's and Masters' Degrees from Danbury State College, now WCSU and had a 29 year career in education.

Danbury - Maureen M. Aronson, wife of Richard J. Aronson, passed away on Nov. 15, 2022, at home in Danbury, CT. Maureen was born on Nov. 10, 1941 in Torrington, CT, the daughter of Bernard J. and Ena D. Malahan.

She attended St. Francis School and Torrington High School, graduating in 1959. She earned her Bachelor’s and Masters’ Degrees from Danbury State College, now WCSU. In 1963, Maureen began a 29-year career at the new King St. School as a kindergarten teacher where she remained for seven years. In 1970, Maureen resigned to become a stay-at-home mom to raise her daughter, Margaret. She returned to education in 1977 and taught kindergarten and second grade at Pomperaug Elementary School in Southbury, CT for another 22 years, retiring in 1999.

Maureen was a paragon of friendship, loyalty, and love. She was revered by all, especially by those who considered her much more than a grandmother or aunt. She always thought of others first and was an inspiration to her many lifelong friends. Maureen was also dedicated to and proud of her Irish heritage. All of those in Maureen’s world are better for having known her.

In addition to her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Maureen is survived by daughter Margaret (Christopher) LaBelle, her sister Margaret Borger, grandchildren Nathan and Sarah LaBelle, several nieces, nephews, and great and grand nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 25 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Church, 160 Main St, Torrington. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen’s name to the CT Make-A-Wish Foundation, 56 Commerce Drive, Trumbull, CT 06611.
