Mavilda enjoyed cooking and crocheting, but her biggest joy was spending time with her family.

Naugatuck-Mavilda (Batista) Dores, age 101, widow of Antonio Batista Margalhaes, passed away on Thursday December 2, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS Innovative Care unit.

She was born on April 17, 1920 in Portugal, the daughter of the late Carolino and Julia (Fernandes) Marques. She came with her family to the United States from Portugal in 1995. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was a devout Catholic. Mavilda enjoyed cooking and crocheting, but her biggest joy was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Mercedes (Aurelio) Carvalhais , Carolino (Esperanca) Magalhaes , Joao (Ceu) Batista, Florinda (Antonio) Almeida, Antonio (Elisa) Batista, Nazara (Jose) Pinto, and Aurelio (Zeza) Batista; her grandchildren, Antonio (Ana) Carvalhais, Antonio (Emmanuela) Batista, Luis Almeida, Carolino (Jenn) Almeida, Victor (Krista) Batista, Paula (Carlos) Coelho, Diane (Matt) Kuskowski, Rui Batista, Philip (Catherine) Batista, Michael Pinto, Melissa (Anthony) Corbo, and Catia and Filipe Batista; her 21 great grandchildren; her sister Sebastiana (Filinto) Lameira; her daughter in law Alice Batista; and several nieces and nephews. Mavilda was predeceased by her son Jose Batista and siblings, Carmin, Antonio, and Alvaro Marques.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 11, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
