Obituary: Michael James “Mickey” Butkus, 53, of Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM – Michael James “Mickey” Butkus, 53, of Bethlehem, passed away, Sunday, January 22, 2023, at his home

Mickey was born in Waterbury, July 3, 1969, son of Anthony E. Butkus, Jr. and the late Mary (Julian) Butkus. He was a lifelong resident of Bethlehem and a graduate of Nonnewaug High School, where he was voted Prom King, and excelled at track & field. He was also a member and officer of the Future Farmers of America.
After high school, Mickey continued his love of sports. A professional arm wrestler with Team CT, he went on to win the 1994 Nations and was featured in a Sports Illustrated article. He played softball on many leagues, most notably pitching for Sportstuff when they won “The Worlds”. He also played on dart leagues, horseshoe leagues, and poker and setback leagues. He was an avid fan of the UConn Huskies and the NE Patriots.
Mickey loved to dance and was always the life of the party. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his father of Bethlehem, Mickey leaves his girlfriend and love of his life, Shauna Houle of Prospect; two brothers, Tony Butkus of Bethlehem and Scott Butkus of Woodbury; his sister, Diane Rabideau and her husband Jason of Bethlehem; his nieces and nephews, Madison, Kaylee, TJ, and Dylan; and his many friends.
In addition to his mother, Mickey was predeceased by his brother, Charles “Burr” Butkus.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, 11 a.m., in Bethlehem Cemetery, Main Street, Bethlehem. Calling hours Friday, January 27, 2023, 5-7 p.m., at the Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown.
