Obituary: Mrs. Dorothy M. (Van Buren) Collins, 96, of Watertown
She worked in the office at Scovill Mfg. Co., until her retirement; she was a member of Watertown United Methodist Church.

WATERTOWN - Mrs. Dorothy M. (Van Buren) Collins, 96, of Watertown, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of John J. Collins, Jr., to whom she was married for 66 years prior to his passing in 2012 and was the love of her life.
Dorothy was born April 11, 1924, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Charles and Nellie (Johnson) Van Buren. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and lived in Thomaston for 20 years before returning to Watertown in 1966. She worked in the office at Scovill Mfg. Co., until her retirement. She was a member of Watertown United Methodist Church and a former member of Eagle Rock Church in Thomaston where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ladies' Aid.

Dorothy was a kind and gentle woman. Her door was always open to those in need. She personified love and grace and found the good in everyone. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and watching the Red Sox and UConn Women's Basketball. She was devoted to her family and cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy leaves her son, Terry Collins and his wife, Gina, of Watertown; her daughter, Diane E. Chere and her husband Greg of Watertown; her brother, Robert Van Buren and his wife Evelyn of Watertown; four grandchildren, Greg Chere and his wife Jenny, Justin Chere, Tim Collins, and Mary Collins and her husband John Jakubczyk; three great grandchildren, Alice and Jack Jakubczyk and Caleb Chere; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Winnie Brammer, and brothers, Jimmy, Richard, Ellsworth, Russell, and Raymond Van Buren.
A graveside service will be held Tues., 10 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, 183 North St., Masks and social distancing are required. A memorial service will be held at Watertown United Methodist Church at a later date. The Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., has been entrusted with the arrangements.
