TORRINGTON, CT - Rita Mary Elizabeth Meyer Murphy died peacefully in the home in Torrington her husband built for her some 70 years ago, on July 14, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband Terrence, father Jacob, mother Sundrene, brothers Edward and Albert, and sisters Barbara Deane and Marie Ryan. She was born January 28, 1926 in Torrington. She is survived by her sons Terrence and his wife Deanne, Richard and his wife Kathleen, Barry and his wife Kathleen, Dennis and his husband John, and daughters Sheila and her husband David, and Ellen and her husband Kevin, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rita graduated at the top of her class at Torrington High School and began work as a secretary in Torrington manufacturing, ending up retiring from the Torrington Company. She will be remembered as a fiercely devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed cooking hundreds of holiday meals for the clan.

She attended Mass at St. Francis of Assisi her entire life with particular devotion to the Virgin Mary. She made her dutiful household chores a religious expression. She will be missed, particularly by those family members who took tender care of her daily needs as she aged.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday July 21 at Noon at Saint Francis Church 160 Main St Torrington. Burial will follow at Saint Peter Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon ave Torrington
