Obituary: Sherry Lee (Bierwirth) Shepherd, 52, of Plymouth

PLYMOUTH - Sherry Lee (Bierwirth) Shepherd, 52, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2022, at Waterbury Hospital with her family by her side.

Sherry was born in Waterbury, CT on May 22, 1969, a daughter of Sandra (Cella) Bierwirth Dion of East Windsor, CT and the late Robert Bierwirth.

Besides her mother, Sherry leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Lacey Gray and her husband, Eric of Terryville, CT, Raquel Raupers and her husband, Travis of Port St. Lucie, FL, Edgard Melendez of Chicago, IL, granddaughter, Madison Gray, brothers, Robert Bierwirth and his wife, Beth of New Hampshire, David Bierwirth and his wife, Ingrid of Kensington, CT, Daniel Bierwirth of Manchester, CT, sisters, Donna Anderson and her husband, Terry of Okeechobee, FL, Robin Bradshaw and her husband, Jim Larkin of Waterbury, CT and Shelley McNulty of Rocky Hill, CT. She also leaves her significant other, Carlos Hernandez, step father, Leonard Dion, brother-in-law, John Pesillo, her special aunt, Patricia White, “soul sisters”, Lisa Beckwith and Allison Townsend, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sherry is now reunited with her beloved husband, Charles “Skip” Shepherd, her father, Bob, and her sister, Carol Pesillo.

Sherry was a graduate of Watertown High School, class of 1987. She started working at Waterbury Hospital as an Emergency Room Technician right away and stayed there her entire career.

Sherry’s empathetic soul touched everyone she met; both patients and coworkers. She was loved by everyone. Her genuine passion and dedication to helping others was obvious to everyone she met. She was selfless in everything she did.

Sherry enjoyed traveling. When she retired, she spent time living in Florida with Skip. They could be found most days lounging by the pool, drinking their Dunkin Donuts coffee, and going for rides on the Harley. They were always entertaining family and friends visiting them from all over.
She enjoyed crafting, especially doing diamond art and crocheting blankets for everyone; mainly her grandbaby Madison. She had a strong love for animals and enjoyed spending time with her dog, Roman. She is reunited with Molly, whom she had a special bond with.

When Sherry moved back to Connecticut, she enjoyed her days with her two best friends, “Soul Sisters”, Allison and Lisa. The three could always be found laughing on the porch and other shenanigans. Her partner Carlos was always by her side, encouraging and supporting her. These last few years spent together was lived to the fullest, filled with happiness and memories that will forever be cherished.

Sherry’s pride and joy were her children and more recently, her granddaughter, Madison Reed. Madison was her sunshine and joy of her life.

She will be greatly missed by everyone she meet; her infectious smile and love for all will never be forgotten.

Arrangements: Calling hours for Sherry will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT. A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
