Naugatuck, CT - Sophie May Tzunum, 7, died peacefully June 13, 2022 at CT Children’s Medical Center in Hartford surrounded by her loving family and dedicated caregivers.

Sophie was born August 28, 2014 in Derby, CT the second daughter of Miguel Tzunum and Mayerling Brice. Sophie was truly an angelic spirit and was extremely kind and loving to everyone. While she was a patient at CT Children’s Hospital, Sophie would sometimes walk from room to room to visit and to encourage other children who were patients at the hospital. Sophie would sit next to them and hold their hand as they were having procedures performed or were receiving treatments. Sophie loved watching movies about miracles and healing and she truly believed in healing and miracles. Sophie May Tzunum was a young lady whose spirit brought incredible joy and happiness to everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Miguel and Mayerling, Sophie is survived by her sister, Scarlet Tzunum; her paternal grandparents, Miguel Tzunum, Sr. and Thelma Tzunum; her maternal grandparents, Angel Brice and Aura Brice; her maternal great grandmother, Mireya Torres; her godparents, Angelo Cordero and Ingrid Tzunum-Cordero and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Sophie’s Life will be Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Family and friends are respectfully asked to please omit flowers and to honor Sophie’s memory with contributions to her sister Scarlet’s College Fund. Checks can be made payable to Scarlet Angelique Tzunum, and mailed to the Tzunum Family at 1081 New Haven Road, Unit 6-i, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
