Waterbury - Sr. Julia L. Skiba, age 99, of Waterbury, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.
Sr. Julia was born in Middletown, CT on February 16, 1922, a daughter of the late Joseph and Kunekunda (Cyrek) Skiba. She attended schools in Middletown and later earned her Master’s Degree from Fairfield University. She started her career in education by teaching math in Massachusetts and New Jersey. Sr. Julia later served as the Principal at Sacred Heart Grammar School for many years before her retirement. She also did work and ran the C.C.D. Programs for Sacred Heart Church and St. Margaret’s Church for many years. She was tremendously dedicated to the Church and education and was a lifetime member of the Sisters for Christian Community.

Sr. Julia leaves behind Anna (Andrew) Bednarczyk, who was like a daughter to her, of Waterbury, Anna’s daughter, Irene (Krystian Michnicki – fiancé), who was like Sr. Julia’s granddaughter of Waterbury and nieces, Barbara (Rich) Johnson of Florida and Lorraine (Thomas) Lesniak of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Thomas Skiba and sisters, Nellie Skiba, Victoria Tyszka and Cecelia Skiba.
The Bednarczyk family would like to thank VITAS for all the care and support they provided throughout the past few years. A special and heartfelt thank you goes to VITAS Aide, Isabel Muchiri who became like family to Sr. Julia and the Bednarczyk household.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church, 13 Wolcott St., Waterbury, CT. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Middletown. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the church. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT has been entrusted with Sr. Julia’s arrangements.
