Obituary: William Maguire, 88, Formerly Of Naugatuck

Bill lived most of his life in Naugatuck and worked as a service engineer, sales manager and vice president.

William Maguire, 88, died peacefully on March 18, 2024 at Yale New Haven Hospital with loving family by his side. Bill was the husband of the late Anne Marie (Toole) Maguire for 59 years.

Bill was born on February 21, 1936 in Mount Kisco, NY a son of the late William J. and Nora E. (Dwyer) Maguire and had recently lived in Southington after living most of his life in Naugatuck.

Bill was an avid Yankees, Celtics and UCONN fan. He enjoyed fishing and hiking and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed traveling with his family and close friends and he loved spending time with his family, going on family vacations, babysitting/sleepovers with his grandchildren and great granddaughter and getting together for family parties. He enjoyed the work that he did, such as his time in the Army; spending time on his yard; the adventure of traveling and his work as a service engineer, sales manager and vice-president.

Bill is survived by his son, Rev. William Maguire, C.P. of East Haven; his daughter, Marianne (Tom) Szarkowicz of Watertown and their children, Michael, Andrea (Nick), Thomas and Mary; his daughter, Susan Maguire of Connecticut and her children, Samantha, William, Joseph, Sean and granddaughter, A’leah; his daughter in law, Christine Maguire of Naugatuck and her children, Jessica (Christian) and Ryan; his sisters, Kathleen DeMatteo (Carl) and Mary Finlay; his sister in law, Toni Maguire; his brother in law, Ray Donnelly and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sons, Dennis Maguire, Joseph Maguire and John Maguire; his brother, James Maguire and his sister, Margaret “Peg” Donnelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone attending Mass is kindly asked to please meet directly at Church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Bill’s memory, donations can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
