Obituary: William R. “Bill” Brew, 81, of Torrington

Torrington- William R. “Bill” Brew, 81, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Valerie Manor, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of Sandra J. (Glasco) Brew.

Mr. Brew was born in Westfield, MA, on February 3, 1941, son of the late William C. and Estelle (Markowicz) Brew, and had been a Reston, VA resident for many years before moving to Torrington 7 years ago. He was a retired diplomat with the U.S. Department of State, retiring with 45 years of service. Mr. Brew earned his Bachelor’s degree from Harvey Mudd College and received his Juris Doctorate from Columbia University. He enjoyed cooking, genealogy, and had a variety of interests. Mr. Brew will be remembered for his strong work ethic.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Sandra, include two sons, Benjamin W. Brew of Falls Church, VA, and Charles E. Brew and his wife, Diane Sisson, of Torrington; two grandchildren, Zachary B. Brew and Rebecca N. Brew; and a sister, Priscilla “Chris” Pearson of Costa Mesa, CA.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 1:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial will follow in Forest View Cemetery, Winsted. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon from 12:00p.m. to 1:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
