To the delight of Anthony E. (Tony) and Roberta (Davis) Zappone, Robert was born on July 31, 1945 as evidenced by daily photos for a year thereafter. He graduated from Watertown High School and attended Waterbury State Technical College. He was hired by the Town of Watertown as Asst Town Engineer in 1966 and retired there from as Asst Director of Public Works in 2007. Bob had the well earned respect of everyone who knew him. Done “Toiling for Pharaoh” Bob joined the snowbirds and flew to his residence in West Park, Florida every winter.

His engineering and analytical acumen carried into his personal life. There was no problem that he could not diagnose and hypothesize a way to repair, replace, revamp or revitalize, if humanly possible, including antique autos, his 1800’s farm house or your leaky faucet. Family and friends never had to ask for his help. He would hear the challenge, go home and think about it, check his magic workshop for tools and then call to tell you what time he would be there.

Bob led a vibrant life until he was brutally attacked by COVID-19. In the preceding weeks he could be found mowing lawns, hand weeding, nailing roof shingles, installing a hardwood floor, and enjoying the company of his family.

Family was foremost for Bob. He was the Big Brother to Debra J. Zappone, her husband, Rene G. Martineau; and Marylou Berry and the doting uncle to his only nephew, Raymond Berry; all of Watertown. He will be also greatly missed by his family/best friends, Richard A. Zappone and Mrs. James (Linda) Zappone, and many special cousins.

His calm demeanor, sharp wit, kind, considerate and generous nature will be missed by all who knew him.

Arrangements: Due to COVID-19 all services and interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown were private and at the convenience of the family. Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Family Funeral home, 430 Chase Parkway is assisting his family with arrangements.
