Partially Clothed Man Carrying Sword Charged: Naugatuck Police
The man's behavior was erratic and causing concern to the public, police said.

NAUGATUCK, CT β A partially clothed man carrying a sword has been charged, Naugatuck police said in a news release Thursday afternoon.
At 7 a.m. Thursday police were called to the area of Prospect and Union streets for a complaint of "partially clothed man carrying a sword," police said.
The man's behavior was erratic and causing concern to the public, police said. Upon arrival, officers found Gonzalo Ortiz, 35, of Lines Hill Street, in the area of Linden Park, police said.

When officers approached and tried to speak with Ortiz, he fled on foot, police said. Based on the circumstances, police said they became concerned that Ortiz may be a danger to himself or others, police said.
A short time later, officers located Ortiz by the river, where he did surrender, police said. Officers recovered one βsamuraiβ style sword with a 29β blade, police said.

Ortiz was charged with the carrying a dangerous weapon, interfering with an officer, and breach of peace. Ortiz was released from custody on a $10,000 non-surety bond where he was transferred to a local hospital for behavioral evaluation, police said.
