NAUGATUCK, CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in Naugatuck and there are plenty of local races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

What is your occupation?

Local business owner.

Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.

Wife, Joan D. Neth, married 43 years; Robert Jr. (42), Rebecca (39), Kimberly (34), three fantastic grandkids.

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

No.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

Yes, finance board (1989-1997), chairman for six years; elected burgess (1997 - present); current deputy mayor.

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

I've been running for office to work for the residents, work to grow the grand list and vote with an open mind.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Taxes are always the issue, and we have been working to grow the grand list so we can reduce the mill rate.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I think the goal is the same for all, I just have the most experience.

If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?

We as a group will not fail the community, everyone has an opinion on issues and we debate the pros and cons for the best solution.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

I deal with all capital projects in town as chairman of that sub-committee which is important, we currently have a lot of projects going on that will be a huge impact to the community.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

30+ sub-committees, Naugatuck High School renovation project 81 million (under budget and on time). Naugatuck Standing Building committee, NEDC, Renewable energy committee, elderly tax exemption committee, sport complex committee, liaison park department and finance department, 5yr capital committee.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Do what is right, listen and make your own decision.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

It is an honor to represent the voters and would love to continue the journey.
