Press release

SEX by MAE WEST is coming to PHOENIX STAGE COMPANY

Originally produced in 1926, Sex is famous for being the play that landed 20s starlet Mae West in prison. Written by, and starring, West herself, the original Broadway run of the show was shut down for obscenity, and West spent 10 days in jail because of it.

Sex tells the story of Margy Lamont, a successful sex worker in Montreal’s red-light district. As she makes her way through the world, she makes it clear that her story is not that of a damsel in distress, but rather that of a woman looking to take control of her own life.

This script reminds me of the 1920's version of PRETTY WOMAN. It's a tale of love, desire, wishes and heartbreak - Ed Bassett, Director

SEX, by Mae West, will be running July 19th through July 27th, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. This show does contain adult themes, alcohol use and inuendo that may not be appropriate for young audiences.

The production is directed by Ed Bassett with Stage Manager Lori Poulin. The cast features Laura Sturges-Cortez, Daniel R Willey, Rob Richnavsky, Tony Benedetti, Stephen Walters, Nate Spencer, Tim Phillips, Jonathan Ross and making their Phoenix Stage Company debuts, Fior Rodriguez and Jamie Goodner-Bingham. The script was adapted by John Long.
