Police Car Hit With Debris 'Falling From The Sky': Naugatuck PD

The officer investigated and found debris including nails on other vehicles, yards and even in the road, police said.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck Police officer was on a patrol when he saw his cruiser being hit with debris "falling from the sky." The officer investigated and an arrest was made.

Police said at 3:52 p.m. on Nov. 26, the officer was on patrol in the area of Galpin Street and Highland Avenue by Seth Drive.

"The officer stated he stopped in that area due to his cruiser being hit with debris falling from the sky. The debris was coming from the roof of (a) Galpin Street (house.) As the officer exited his vehicle he could immediately see roof debris on other vehicles, in the roadway, and in other residents’ yards. The road was not closed at this time. This debris consisted of unsafe material including nails, roof shingles and wood."

Police added that, "Upon further investigation the officer saw the crew was not working with any safety equipment and that the area was not properly marked for pedestrian traffic or for vehicles."

Police said the officer spoke with Rony Chomo-Chup, 19, of Torrington, who tried to give the officer a wrong name. Chomo-Chup is charged with interfering with an officer, first-degree reckless endangerment, and second-degree breach of peace. He was given a $5,000 bond.
