Waterbury Officer Shot By Fellow Officer During Investigation: PD

The officer was shot by another officer during a chaotic scene involving stolen vehicles on Tuesday, according to reports.

WATERBURY, CT — The Waterbury police officer hospitalized after a shooting incident on Tuesday was shot by another officer, according to multiple reports.

NBC Connecticut reports Officer Charles Mauriello was released from the hospital and is recovering at home. He was shot when Officer Garrett Pagel fired his weapon during a stolen vehicle investigation in the area of East Main Street and Wolcott Street.

Mauriello was shot when the drivers of two stolen SUVs revved their engines and sped into several Waterbury police vehicles, according to the Hartford Courant.

WTNH News 8 reported on Tuesday that Mauriello was wearing a bullet-proof vest that saved his life.
