Waterbury, CT - Naugatuck Valley Community College presents the New England Premiere of Persephone {a new myth for a hotter world}, written by the Connecticut-based playwright, Kristen Palmer and directed by Sasha Bratt.

The performance will take place in the Playbox Theater at Naugatuck Valley Community College, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Performances are scheduled for October 24th, 25th, and 26th at 7:30 with a 2:00 matinee on the 27th . Tickets are $10. Call (203) 575-8193 for reservations.

This piping hot performance is an original, never before produced play, that cleverly relates Greek mythology to modern day politics:

Persephone leans into a cave and is kidnapped by Hades, the God of the underworld. Maybe she was seduced, maybe she was ready to grow up and run off with a lover. Persephone eats pomegranate seeds out of Hades’ hand, marking the symbolism of their marriage. The mother of Persephone, Demeter pleads for her daughter’s return, but because she had already eaten food from the underworld, she has to spend half the year below with her new husband and half of the year with her mother above and the Earth will find a balance of the seasons. This did not satisfy Demeter and leads to destruction and a power trip that may lead to ultimate doom. Demeter will keep the earth warm all year round and she will go through any means to keep her daughter with her forever.

In tackling this thrilling new project, the student actors have "approached their characters and the story with curiosity and commitment. They've asked questions that have uncovered the play's trajectory to me, deepened their performances and brought the beating heart of the play to the stage." - Kristen Palmer, Playwright. It is a performance not to be missed!
