Preview of 'The Wizard of Oz' at Seymour High School

Seymour High School Music Department will present
The Wizard of Oz (RSC)

on March 16 and 17 at 7pm and March 18 at 2pm. Admission cost is $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors. This play is suitable for all ages and will be in two acts with an intermission.

Wizard is directed and produced by Brandt Schneider and Assistant Director is Stephanie Ciccone. Darlene Keeffe is leading the set and and costume construction. Over twenty other faculty members are volunteering their time.

Senior Abby Andrade has been cast as Dorothy. Junior Eliana Arroyo is Glinda and senior Bella Torri is cast as the Wicked Witch. Sophomore Mike Starkey is the Scarecrow, sophomore Phil Fioretti is the Lion and junior Sophia Fioretti is the Tin Man. Junior Rachel Moon plays the Wizard of Oz. Junior Taylor Dauphinais has choreographed the production.

Thirty seven SHS students are in the production and all are members of the SHS Choir. Over forty students are involved in behind the scenes production including playbill design, set design, lighting design, and costume and set construction.

The SHS students are being joined in the cast by 48 kindergarten students from Bungay Elementary School. KInder students will perform as Munchkins, Poppies, Ozians, Monkeys and Winkies. Each SHS student has been paired with a Bungay student and they have been working very hard.

This is the second show presented at Seymour High School this year. Its a Wonderful Life: Radio Play was performed in December. Last spring SHS won a HALO award for “Best Contemporary Play”.

The Wizard of Oz will run at the Seymour High School Auditorium, 2 Botsford Rd, Seymour CT 06483.

Be aware that the play runs about two hours and that might be tough for the smallest children.
