From Rep. Rebimbas: Honoring Our Fallen Heroes - Memorial Day '20

Naugatuck, CT - Heroes come in many forms. Today, we honor the more than 1.3 million American soldiers who have died for our freedom and our way of life. It is this shared belief in personal liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and a better life for all that binds us together.

In the wake of COVID-19, the usual traditions of Memorial Day weekend will take a new form. However, that should not detract from the significance of this national holiday, nor what it means to our men and women in uniform.

While our annual traditions will be put on hold for 2020, Naugatuck will continue to honor our fallen soldiers in the age of social distancing. The 131st Fighter Squadron from the Massachusetts Air National Guard will conduct an F-15 flyover at approximately 12:36 p.m. (give or take 5 minutes). The flyover will take place above the Naugatuck River. Thank you to Naugatuck Veterans Council Chairman John DeBisschop for his work on this.

In addition, the Naugatuck Veteran's Council will have a ceremony on the Naugatuck Green at 12:30 p.m. Although this will not be open to the public, the ceremony will be broadcast live via Naugatuck's Facebook page.

I hope you will all join me in observing this important American holiday as we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may all live our lives with freedom, security, and the promise of better days ahead.
