Our Chance to Stop the Ban on the Sales of New Gas-Powered Passenger Vehicles

The state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has officially submitted to the legislature's Regulation Review Committee its proposed emissions standards that will ban the sale of all new gas-powered cars by 2035. The regulations will be on the committee's agenda on November 28th.
The 14-member committee, which is split evenly between Democrats and Republicans, needs to say no to these proposed regulations, which are based on California's emissions standards. Doing so would allow the legislature's full membership - 151 House members and 36 senators - to vote on whether the state should begin throttling back the sales of new gas-powered passenger vehicles beginning with the 2027 model year, with the full ban in place by 2035.
The impact a full-scale ban on the sales of new gas-powered vehicles would have on our fragile electric grid would be significant, with one utility company estimating it must spend as much as $2.4 billion to upgrade its infrastructure to meet demand resulting from the surge of electric vehicles.
The cost of new EV vehicles puts them out of reach for many working-class families, a fact which this ban ignores. There's also no plan in place as to how charging stations will be installed for the massive amount of new EVs that would hit the road.

Their proposed mandate will hit the finances of residents and business hard while significantly altering your freedom of choice and movement.
Advocates for mirroring California's emissions standards on passenger vehicles point to a 2004 vote which they say provides DEEP the latitude to make these drastic changes.
However, this would represent a massive and costly change, which is why I'm urging you to contact the lawmakers who serve on the Regulation Review Committee to tell them not to move forward with approving these emission standards. Instead, this should be put before the full legislature for debate and a vote.
