No Attempt Made To Lure Child Into Car, Naugatuck Police Say

Police released new details concerning the incident that was reported Monday night.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” Police said they were investigating a report that a man tried to lure an 11-year-old into his vehicle but it ended up being something far different and there was no attempt to lure a child into a car.

At 10:30 p.m. Monday police responded to Cold Spring Circle for a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. It was reported that a man attempted to lure an 11-year-old child into his vehicle, police said.

The vehicle is described as a gray Chrysler 300, older model, police said. The vehicle may have rust on it and sun damaged headlights (lenses are foggy), police said. The vehicle may have a license plate with the first two numbers "57."

Police said Tuesday they identified the driver of the vehicle.

"As a result of investigate efforts by our detectives, it was determined that a female occupant, subsequently identified as Amanda Gowrie (27 of Cold Spring Ciricle) exited the passenger side of the suspect vehicle in a state of intoxication," police said in a news release. "Gowrie began shouting at several of the juveniles in the immediate area, one of which she mistakenly believed to be a family member.

"As a result her behavior, this caused alarm and concern to the children, however, it has been determined there was no intent to "abduct" or "lure" any children into this vehicle," police said. "The operator of the vehicle had no involvement, and was simply giving Gowrie a ride home."

Follow-up interviews with juveniles and their parents declined to pursue the matter further and Gowrie was issued an infraction for creating a public disturbance.
