Salary Increases Lead To Debate In Naugatuck

NAUGATUCK, CT — The positions of mayor, tax collector, and town clerk all received a 2.5 percent salary increase from the Joint Boards of Mayor and Burgesses and Board of Finance last week, the Republican-American reports.

The salaries will increase 2.5 percent this fiscal year and next. The mayor's salary will increase to $92.473 next fiscal year. A total of 21 people received raising totaling $25,000, the Rep-Am reports. Fire Chief Ellen Murray received a 2 percent raise and Naugatuck Senior Center Director Harvey Frydman received a 5.45 percent increase.

The raises for elected officials are effective after the Nov. 5 election and were approved for the positions as opposed to a particular person though the mayor and city clerk are running unopposed in Naugatuck.

Not everyone thought the raises should be approved.
