Sex Offender Tried To Entice 13-Year-Old Girl: U.S. Attorney

The Waterbury man has convictions in multiple states on sex charges.

WATERBURY, CT β€” A registered sex offender from Waterbury was arrested after he attempted to sexually entice a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Rhode Island office.

Jesus Maldonado, 55, communicated with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old Rhode Island girl who in actuality was a Rhode Island State Police detective, the U.S. Attorney's office said in a statement. The communication consisted of discussions about illicit sexual activity and he sent obscene photographs.

Maldonado was arrested March 25. He is charged with attempted enticement of a minor, attempted transmission of obscene matter to a minor, and commission of specified offenses while a registered sex offender.

He has a 1993 Connecticut conviction for sexual assault, a 2008 Illinois conviction for sex abuse of a minor and a 2011 federal conviction for failure to register as a sex offender.
