SHU Virtual Alumni Job Shadow Program Seeks Volunteers

The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 18, 2020.

FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart University is introducing the Virtual Alumni Job Shadow Program for 2020-2021. Would you be interested in volunteering a couple hours of time and your professional expertise to help a SHU student looking to explore a desired career field and network? We’ve implemented the Job Shadow Program in recent years to much success pairing more than 150 students with alumni in the workplace. Demand from students this fall is very strong.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are pivoting to virtual sessions for the year ahead. The objective of these interactions is to help students gain insight on important industry trends, learn about a specific employer/business and learn how people are getting their job done in modified work environments. These sessions range from 1-3 hours based on the time availability of the alumnus.

We are asking that if you are willing to virtually host a student shadow, that you please take a minute to fill out a short form using the link below. The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 18, 2020.

Based on your responses, we work with the Center for Career and Professional Development to strategically match you with a student applicant. Although we are unable to guarantee a 100% match rate, we work hard to make as many student-alumni pairings as possible.

About the Process
Students are required to submit an application and resume. Vetted students who are matched then must attend a virtual orientation session in early November, where they will be instructed on best practices and proper shadowing etiquette. Students are provided their match information once they complete orientation.

If you are matched, you will be contacted separately by the student and me. As the host, you will get to choose which virtual platform is the best for you/your company (i.e. zoom, google meet, etc.). In your application process, you will choose which days and weeks work the best to host your shadow experience. The student will have this information prior to contacting you to set up a time to meet. You will be responsible for setting up the agenda for the day. I will be happy to provide an agenda guide if needed.

Thank you in advance for considering hosting a student. If you have any questions or issues accessing the application, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or by phone at 203-365-7650.

Thank you,
