Stolen Street Sign, 'Uptick' In Parking Tickets In Naugatuck

There several news and notes from the most recent Naugatuck Board of Police Commissioners meeting.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” At the most recent Board of Police Commissioners meeting there were several updates on various topics including a sign that is frequently stolen, a new request for a stop sign, an update on the D.A.R.E. program, and why parking tickets are on the rise in one section of the Borough.

Here is the information on those various topics via the May Board of Police Commissioners meeting:

Burgess Rocky Vitale of East Waterbury Road Naugatuck, CT 06770, requested another replacement β€˜40 MPH’ sign on Route 68, to replace the one that continues to be an issue and is frequently stolen.

Mark Seeger of Country Hollow Road Naugatuck, CT 06770, requested the Police Commission to look at the intersection of Applewood Lane and Country Hollow. He is requesting a stop sign be put up, to force the traffic to stop and travel slower in the area because the area has a lot of children walking and on bicycles. Chief Hunt will execute a traffic study of the area. Chief Hunt will present his recommendation to the Police Commission at the REGULAR June 18, 2019 Meeting.


Chief Hunt and LT. McAllister visited the new Jewish School to introduce themselves and discuss school security and safety. Chief Hunt gave the school officials LT. Vostinak’s contact information, as he is the officer who surveys school safety. Chief Hunt and the department will continue to grow the relationship and assist the school in any way.

Chief Hunt explained the uptick in the β€˜parking tickets’ due to a resident complaint on
lower High Street.


Chief Hunt informed the commission that he would like to join the RING Neighborhood
(digital watch) program. Allowing residents with the RING camera system to be sent notifications of crime in their areas and a request for the residents to share their footage to help the Police find the offenders. Three towns in the state are currently part of the RING Neighborhood program.


D.A.R.E program is on track to begin in the schools at the 7th grade level in fall 2019. The
program will reach 330 students. Naugatuck Police Department has five officers who
have completed the D.A.R.E instructor program.
