Sunrise Mass Held at Holy Land Waterbury

The Sunrise Mass was officially moved to Saturday, June 22 when was no chance for any precipitation in the forecast.

The Rev. James Sullivan of Basilica of the Immaculate Conception held a special sunrise Mass at Holy Land at 5:00am on Saturday morning, the rain date for the Mass originally scheduled for Friday, the longest day of the year, at 5 a.m . Fr. Sullivan scheduled the Sunrise Mass about a week ago.

The Sunrise Mass was officially moved to Saturday, June 22 when was no chance for any precipitation in the forecast.

Pam Monahan, who frequently appears as the reader on the ORTV Television Mass, posted that Fr. Sullivan said today there will definitely be more such Masses; the next one is planned for early August. This one was celebrated because of the summer solstice, but it had to be postponed a day because of rain.

Attendance far exceeded expectations. Ms. Monahan estimated 300 to 400 were people there on Saturday morning, despite the change of date.

Worshippers drove up to Holy Land Waterbury parking lot to experience the early morning Mass on the top of the mountain where the landmark is located.
