SurfCT Provides $7,000 Sponsorship for Little Scientists

SurfCT will provide a $7,000 sponsorship for Little Scientists STIEM programs in Naugatuck schools.

Milford, CT – SurfCT, a global company based in Naugatuck, CT, will present a $7,000 sponsorship check to Little Scientists to fund 40 science lessons in three Naugatuck elementary and middle schools. The check presentation ceremony takes place at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, November 20 at the Western Elementary School in Naugatuck. Immediately following, Little Scientists Founder and CEO, Dr. Heidi Gold-Dworkin, will conduct an In-School Field Trip science lesson with students.

“Little Scientists is honored to be selected as a science education provider for the Naugatuck School District,” says Dr. Heidi Gold-Dworkin. “We are especially grateful to SurfCT for their generous sponsorship to make these lessons possible for Naugatuck students at Western Elementary, Hillside Intermediate and Cross Street Intermediate Schools.”

For the first time in Connecticut history, science is counted the same as math and literacy on the state’s standardized testing, elevating its importance as a required core competency for young students. According to Dr. Gold-Dworkin, “Little Scientists will work with the Naugatuck Schools to enhance science programming, preparing students for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Test. Engaging young students in science education early on, fosters both excitement and achievement in all the sciences, preparing them for careers that enable them to compete in the global economy.”

Paul Vigario, Founder and CEO of SurfCT says, “I want to give back to the community where I grew up through this much needed sponsorship. I know how important science was to me growing up. When exposed to science at an early age, children increase their cognitive, scientific, mathematic and literacy achievements. It means a lot to me to pay it forward in SurfCT’s hometown of Naugatuck.”

“With Little Scientists' hands-on approach, our students get to be the scientists. Their in-class field trips provide students with accessible, real-world science-based experiences,” says Caroline Gordon Messenger, Director of Curriculum for Naugatuck Public Schools.

“We are so thankful for the support of SurfCT in bringing the Little Scientists Program to our schools,” says Western Elementary School Principal Brenda Goodrich. “Engaging young students in science is critical for their future in the 21st century.”

In the next decade, an estimated 75 percent of jobs in the fastest growing industries will require Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
