Teen Drowns Fleeing From Police In Waterbury: Report

A teen died and three others were arrested after they fled from police Tuesday afternoon, according to a report.

WATERBURY, CT — One teen drowned and three others were arrested after fleeing from police Tuesday afternoon in Waterbury, according to FOX 61. Police initially spotted an unoccupied, abandoned vehicle stolen out of Millertown, New York at 12:13 p.m.

Then an officer saw a group of teens on Sage Drive in a vehicle stolen out of Ridgefield.

The officer approached, and the teens fled. The officer was able to take two of the group into custody, according to FOX 61. The driver of the vehicle was a 14-year-old and another occupant of the vehicle was 16.

The two other teens fled into a wooded area and entered the Lakewood Lake reservoir, WTNH News-8 reported. A 17-year-old was taken into custody.

Another 17-year-old male went under the water. Police attempted to find him but couldn't, according to WTNH News-8.

A dive team later recovered the teen's body. He was pronounced dead at Saint Mary's Hospital at 3:17 p.m.

The student has not been identified. However, officials confirmed that he was a Crosby High School student in Waterbury, according to WFSB 3-TV.

Waterbury police knew the group of teens from previous arrests. The three surviving teens were charged with theft of a stolen motor vehicle and interfering with police.

State police will investigate the death of the 17-year-old.
