WAMS Class of 2022 Commencement Ceremony

Members of the Class of 2022 will attend 35 colleges, universities and institutes of higher learning.

Waterbury - The Waterbury Arts Magnet School held the Class of 2022’s Commencement Ceremony on Monday, June 20 at Waterbury’s Palace Theater, which is the proscenium stage for the school. There were 104 members of the graduating class, 100% of them earning their diplomas. Three of the graduates are entering the military.

The Honorable Neil M. Leary, Mayor of Waterbury called the Palace Theater “the center of the universe of our city.”

Representing the Waterbury Board of Education was Juanita P. Hernandez, Vice President, who reminded the graduates to make their parents proud. Principal Nick Albini told the graduates that the WAMS community is relying on them to make smart choices.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Verna Ruffin asked Principal Albini for some highlights about the graduating class. Certainly one of those was that the class was awarded $1.5 million in scholarships. She deemed the last two and a half years that the members of this class had endured “unimaginable,” but despite all of the challenges, they did it.

The WAMS chorus and chamber singers chose to perform a lovely arrangement of “Time of Your Life” under the direction of Mrs. Marianna Vagnini-Dadamo.

As is tradition, two retiring teachers led the graduates out of the theater at the conclusion of the ceremony. Mr. Philip Sterling is retiring this year.
