Wanted Man Surrenders After Police Shooting In Naugatuck

The man is accused of driving directly at an officer, who then fired several shots at the vehicle, during a traffic stop in Naugatuck.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” The man accused of driving directly at a police officer during a traffic stop voluntarily surrendered early Friday morning, according to officials.

Police said Roznovsky Machado, 24, of Waterbury, turned himself in at Naugatuck Police Department around 3:30 a.m. on an arrest warrant. The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Sept. 14 on the Route 8 North on-ramp at Maple Street. The officer was conducting a traffic stop on an orange 2019 Dodge Charger with Ohio registration No. HQJ2680.

During the course of the stop, Sgt. Nicholas Kehoss fired several shots at the vehicle as Machado drove directly at him while leaving the scene, according to officials and body camera footage.

Kehoss was hit by the Charger and later was treated at the hospital for his injuries.

Machado wasn’t injured when he surrendered to police, according to officials.

Machado was arrested on charges of criminal attempt at first-degree assault, second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, engaging police in a pursuit, evading responsibility with physical injury, operating under suspension and assault on an officer. He was being held in lieu of a $350,000 bond and appeared in Waterbury Court on Friday.

The Fairfield State’s Attorney’s office is investigating Kehoss's use of force in the incident.
