Water Main Project To Begin In Naugatuck

Work on the $2.4 million project, which will replace a 130-year-old water main, is set to begin this week.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Connecticut Water is set to begin installing a new water main this week on Rubber Avenue, Church Street, Barnum Court and Park Place.

According to a news release provided Friday by Connecticut Water, about six-tenths of a mile, or 3,300 feet, of water main will be installed at a cost of approximately $2.4 million. The new main replaces existing pipe that is approximately 130 years old.

Four fire hydrants will also be replaced as part of the project. The main and fire hydrants will provide additional fire protection for public safety and improved water quantity and quality to area residents, according to Connecticut Water.

"Investing in drinking water infrastructure improves water system reliability and enhances water quality," Rose Gavrilovic, vice president of service delivery, said in a news release. "When customers turn on the tap, they expect high-quality water without interruption. This investment in new water main will serve customers for decades to come."

Work on the project will take place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project is expected to be completed by August.

The project is funded through the Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) on customer bills. According to Connecticut Water, the company's goal is to replace about one percent of its more than 1,850 miles of water main every year through the WICA program.

Connecticut Water plans to invest over $52 million in water treatment, water storage and pipelines this year.

Construction area includes:

  • Rubber Avenue between Water Street and Church Street
  • Church Street between Rubber Avenue and Division Street
  • Barnum Court
  • Park Place

Construction will begin on Rubber Avenue. Customers in the construction area have been notified of the project and will receive advance notice of any scheduled water service interruption because of the water main installation project, according to Connecticut Water.
