Waterbury Health Welcomes New Women's Health Physician

She has been practicing medicine in Greater Waterbury since 1987.

From Waterbury Health: Mary Lizabeth Aquavia, MD, has joined Alliance Medical Group, an affiliate of Waterbury HEALTH. Dr. Aquavia specializes in internal medicine and women’s health. Dr. Aquavia is Board Certified in internal medicine.

Dr. Aquavia received her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine affiliated programs at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine through a collaborative program affiliated with Saint Mary’s Hospital and Waterbury Hospital.

She has been practicing medicine in Greater Waterbury since 1987.

Dr. Aquavia was instrumental in developing women centered primary care in the region, which focused on prevention, education, health maintenance, and empowering women to be active partners in healthcare. She is continuing her work in women’s centered primary care. She was named Medical Director of the soon to open Comprehensive Women’s Health Center in Southbury and is working in building and shaping this new service.

Dr. Aquavia is distinguished for quality care to her patients receiving a Five Star Excellence Award in 2017 by Professional Research Consultants Inc., a national healthcare research and consulting organization. She served on several leadership committees among them, the Medical Executive Committee and the Women’s Health Task Force. She developed disease state protocols for obesity and osteoporosis. She is also a member of the American College of Physicians, the Connecticut State Medical Society, and the Waterbury Medical Society.

Her civic involvement has included the following organizations: United Way of Greater Waterbury, American Cancer Society and the National Kidney Foundation.
