Waterbury Public Schools to Continue Daily Meal Service Through School Closure
Breakfast and Lunch to be Served in “grab and go” style at 25 schools

March 13, 2020- Waterbury, CT- During this challenging time, Waterbury Public Schools and Superintendent Verna D. Ruffin are deeply committed to continuing the District’s free breakfast and lunch program, a service thousands of our students rely upon.

Beginning Monday, March 16, students will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch at any one of 25 schools around the city between 9:00 a.m. and noon. The meals will be pre-packaged by the District’s Food Service Department. A complete list of the locations can be found at www.waterbury.k12.ct.us.

Waterbury Public Schools extends its gratitude to its dedicated Food Service Department, which has been collaborating on a plan for several days. We would also like to thank the State Department of Education, namely Commissioner Miguel Cardona and Chief Operating Officer Charlene Russell-Tucker for their leadership and guidance in securing the necessary approval through the United States Department of Agriculture We are also grateful to Mayor Neil M. O’Leary for his continued support of our students and staff during this unprecedented closure.

  • All students are eligible to pick up breakfast and lunch at any one of the 25 locations listed below.
  • The Food Service Department will provide both meals in a “grab and go” package for students to pick up beginning Monday, March 16 and through the duration of the school closure. Meals can be picked up between 9:00 a.m. and noon.
  • For students who do not have access to the online learning plan, academic packets for Kindergarten through 12th grade will be available at each location as well.
