Waterbury Woman Killed By Stray Bullet; Police Hunt For Suspect

WATERBURY, CT — A 56-year-old Waterbury woman, who police said was not the intended target, was killed Saturday afternoon when a stray bullet struck her in the head while she was in her home, according to media reports.

Mabel Martinez Antongiorgi was shot in her Orange Street home at about 1:15 p.m. and was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital where she later died. Antongiorgi reportedly was the mother of Olympic rifle shooter Yarimar Mercado Martinez, who competed in the 2016 and 2021 Olympics for Puerto Rico.

Another victim, Ryan Lindsay, 35, was struck by a bullet in the hip while walking in the area and survived, WFSB-TV reported.

Authorities are searching for 34-year-old New Haven resident Levi Brock, who they say is a person of interest in connection with the shooting, Fox61 reported.

According to police, the shooting took place between two vehicles that were involved in a drug deal in the area of Walnut and Orange streets.

Brock was the driver of one of the vehicles, and his car was recovered in New Haven, according to reports. Inside was a firearm, which reportedly is being tested to determine if it fired the shot that killed Antongiorgi.

Waterbury police are asking for the public's help in finding him.

"Brock is known to be in the area of Waterbury, CT or New Haven, CT," Waterbury police wrote on Facebook (see below). "Brock is a convicted felon with a history of violent criminal activity. He is considered to be armed and dangerous."

The driver of the other vehicle, Waterbury resident Angel Gonzalez, 22, reportedly has been questioned by police, but authorities have not released any information about his involvement in the case.
