WCSU Hosts 8th Annual Lecture Series on ‘Climate & Human Civilization'

DANBURY, Connecticut — To help the community understand the effects of climate change on humans, Western Connecticut State University invites the public to attend five free programs that are part of its eighth annual lecture series hosted by WCSU’s Jane Goodall Center for Excellence in Environmental Studies. The live lectures include faculty and student presenters, and will be held on five consecutive Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the university’s Science Building, Room 219, on the Midtown campus at 181 White St. in Danbury. Topics include:

• March 19 – “Fire Climate” presented by Dr. Mitch Wagener, professor of Climate Ecology and Biology, with student Milo Duch
• March 26 – “Hot Expectations: Risk, Outcomes & Harm Reduction in the Heat for the Physically Active” presented by Dr. Rebecca Stearns, associate professor in residence, Department of Kinesiology at UConn; and Dr. Jeffrey Schlicht, professor of Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences
• April 16 – “Tickpocalypse: Assessing Risk for Tick-Borne Diseases in a Changing Climate” presented by Dr. Neeta Connally, professor of Biology, with student Sandra Zapata-Ramirez

“Climate change is real, and it affects all of us. And while experts agree it is bad, there is hope, if we all act soon,” said Wagener, who is a leading speaker on global climate change.

“As Margaret Atwood once said, Wagener added, ‘Climate change is everything change.’ Climate change will affect us all in many ways. The more we know, the more prepared we will be to make wise choices.”
