NAUGATUCK, CT — Police said they are currently investigating the recent appearance of white supremacist propaganda in Naugatuck, according to media reports.

The Connecticut Post reports three signs promoting a nationalist hate group have been found on utility poles along public roads in town since Dec. 2. Police said the signs were all associated with Patriot Front and were removed with help from Naugatuck Public Works.

The Republican-American reports one of the signs posted on Golden Court on Dec. 9 featured an anti-immigration message. McAllister told the publication earlier this week he was not aware of any recent postings of these types of signs in town.

In a statement sent to Patch, Naugatuck police confirmed Thursday evening a total of three signs were posted on public utility poles on Route 68, or in the immediate vicinity, on or about Dec. 2.

Police also noted Naugatuck did "not appear to have been specifically targeted" as they believed the signs may have been posted in other communities near Route 68.

"We have consulted with the Waterbury State's Attorney, who has determined that the signs posted do not meet the statutory requirements of a hate crime in Connecticut," police said in a statement sent to Patch, "however we remain sensitive to the community's concerns and continue to look into the sign's origins. Naugatuck is a welcoming community and this is not consistent with our values."
