William Walter “Bill” Wood, Jr., 98, Formerly of Naugatuck

Bill was raised in Naugatuck where he graduated from Naugatuck High School.

Oakville, CT - William Walter “Bill” Wood, Jr., 98, husband of the late Dolores (Karvelis) Wood for 73 years, died peacefully on December 7, 2022 at Apple Rehab in Watertown.

Bill was born July 23, 1924 in Waterbury, CT son of the late William Walter Wood, Sr. and Ruth (Weaving) Wood. Bill was raised in Naugatuck where he graduated from Naugatuck High School. Bill worked in the warehouse for the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 1979. Bill was a proud United States Army veteran, and during World War II he served as a soldier in the 110 th Anti-Aircraft Battalion and stormed the beaches of Normandy on D Day and the Battle of the Bulge. During his spare time, Bill enjoyed bowling and belonged to a league for many years.

Bill is survived by his son, William “Bill” Wood, III and his daughter in law, Judy Wood of Surfside Beach, SC; his granddaughter, Veronica DaSilva of Dover Plains, NY; his grandsons, William “Billy” Wood of Pomfret Center, CT and Shawn Wood of Maine; many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held privately at a later date. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Bill’s memory, donations are requested to the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd S, #4b, Southington, CT 06489.
