Woman Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash, Waterbury Police Say

A woman is facing charges tied to an accident that left a moped rider dead, according to police.

WATERBURY, CT — A woman has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that left a moped rider dead, according to police.

A hit-and-run accident involving a moped was reported July 25 at 2:07 a.m. at the intersection of Meriden Road and Southmayd Road in Waterbury.

Police located Luis Santana, 27, of Waterbury, on the ground, suffering from severe injuries. He was taken to the hospital and later died due to his injuries.

A police investigation identified the suspect in the case as Ayesha Abdul-Lateef, 47, of Waterbury. She was taken into police custody Wednesday.

Abdul-Lateef was charged with evading responsibility resulting in death and failure to yield while turning left.
