Woman Charged With Kidnapping, Assaulting An Officer: Naugatuck Police

Police said the woman is accused of taking a 5-year-old child from a home in Naugatuck even though she did not have authority to do so.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A woman accused of taking a young family member from a home in Naugatuck without authority to do so was arrested early Sunday morning, according to police.

In a news release posted to Facebook, police said the incident was reported shortly after midnight.

According to police, investigating officers determined a 5-year-old child had been taken from their bed by a family member, who did not live at the home, and left in a stolen vehicle.

Due to statements made by the family member earlier that evening, as well as a past history of mental health concerns, authorities determined the child's safety and well-being were in jeopardy, according to police.

After utilizing multiple departmental resources and coordinating with other police departments, the child was returned several hours later, police said.

Police said the family member also tried to run from officers on foot and assaulted an officer during her arrest.

The family member was charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, first-degree custody interference, risk of injury, assault of police personnel and larceny of a motor vehicle.

She was held on a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Monday, according to police.
