New Canaan Preservation Alliance Unveils Plans to Transform the 1913 Library for Modern, Green, Reuse
November 12, 2021 New Canaan, Conn.—The New Canaan Preservation Alliance today announced plans to Town of New Canaan governing bodies, which would allow the Town’s iconic 1913 New Canaan Library building to undergo a “green, environmentally sustainable transformation,” according to architects, which would:
- Create a Library campus with the green linking the Town’s past and its future while respecting the environment
- Allow for the modern needs of the Library and the community by providing flexible, versatile indoor exhibition space and an exterior performance space accommodating hundreds of people
- Create an aesthetic rapport with the new library which is to be built
The New Canaan Preservation Alliance and various volunteer groups have been working to protect the original 1913 stone library building from being demolished in order to create additional lawn space for the new library.
