2-Alarm Chimney Fire Damages New Canaan Home: Fire Department
The blaze was reported Sunday evening on Strawberry Hill Road.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A chimney fire damaged a home on Strawberry Hill Road in New Canaan Sunday evening, but the homeowners were able to safely get out of the house with no injuries, according to New Canaan Fire Marshal Fred Baker.
The blaze was reported at 6:24 p.m., and the first arriving units "encountered fire burning in the walls around the chimney and into the attic," Baker said.
A second alarm was called which added members from the Wilton, Norwalk, Stamford, Pound Ridge Fire Departments along with New Canaan EMS and Police Department.

"The fire appears to have been caused by a breach in the chimney system, allowing hot embers to escape and ignite the structural members," Baker said.
He added that the fire was brought under control in about 15 Minutes, but crews remained on the scene past 9 p.m. to make sure any additional hot spots were extinguished.

The home was deemed to be temporarily uninhabitable, and the occupants made arrangements to stay with neighbors, according to Baker.
