2 New Canaan Police Officers Receive Promotions
The New Canaan Police Commission promoted two officers during a recent meeting.
NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Commission promoted two officers during a special meeting held Wednesday.
In a news release, Chief of Police Leon Krolikowski announced Sgt. Louis Gannon was promoted to the role of lieutenant while Officer Thomas Callinan was promoted to sergeant. Both promotions will be effective around Jan. 2.
Gannon will command the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift, and Callinan will be assigned to the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift.

According to Krolikowski, Gannon has served the department for 30 years, during which he has filled the roles of patrol sergeant, youth officer, training officer, investigator and acting lieutenant.
Most recently, he was assigned to the department's patrol division as a sergeant. Additionally, he has served as the town coordinator for the CT Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run and was responsible for implementing the department's bicycle patrol unit.

Gannon was also one of the two founding members of the department's special response team. He has earned The Chief's Award of Excellence for Physical Fitness, the Commissioners' Physical Fitness Award and the Perkin's Award for marksmanship, Krolikowski said.
Callinan has served the department for eight years, during which he has filled the roles of acting sergeant and field training officer. He is also a member of the department's special response team.
Callinan has earned several awards throughout his career, including the Lt. Stephen W. Wood Officer of the Year Award, Meritorious Service, Life Saving, and the Courage of CT Award for saving the life of a fellow New Canaan police officer. He has also been awarded the Commissioners' Physical Fitness award and unit citations, Krolikowski said.
"We are proud of these newly promoted officers, their accomplishments and their dedication to our department and town," Krolikowski said in a news release. "These promotions will help us to continually provide the highest level of service to our community."
