NEW CANAAN, CT — Three New Canaan High School students have completed spring internships at SoundWaters, a leader in climate science education.

According to a news release provided by SoundWaters, students Elizabeth Holland, Emma Peloso and Aine Stevens spent five weeks at the organization's Coastal Education Center at Cove Island Park in Stamford.

The three NCHS seniors were part of a larger group of spring interns from several area high schools who, instead of attending classes for the final weeks of their high school careers, did internships to experience a real-world business environment, according to the organization.

At SoundWaters, the interns worked every day alongside and under the guidance of SoundWaters professional educators, teaching the science of Long Island Sound to more than 2,000 pre-school, elementary and middle school students from schools across the region.

They helped students in classroom and lab settings, as well as on the beach and in boats on Holly Pond where young students do field work, according to the organization.

"I really enjoyed this internship experience," Stevens said in a news release, "it taught me so much and I loved helping all the younger students."

Stevens will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall.

The SoundWaters High School Internship Program is a model for professional development and environmental stewardship, according to the organization.

"Our interns develop their job and leadership skills on a daily basis as they perform scientific experiments, aquarium maintenance and assist with our STEM programs, reaching over 100 students each day," SoundWaters Director of Education Christina Genz said in a news release. "The SoundWaters intern program is a powerful learning experience."
