3 New Canaan Police Officers Receive Promotions
Three New Canaan officers recently received promotions to the rank of captain, lieutenant and sergeant, according to police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Three town police officers recently received promotions to the rank of captain, lieutenant and sergeant, according to New Canaan police.
During a special meeting held April 19, the town's police commission promoted Police Lt. Joseph Farenga to captain.
According to police, Farenga has served with the department for 23 years, during which he has filled the roles of patrol lieutenant, patrol sergeant, dispatcher, motor enforcement officer and SRT team leader. He was also assigned to the department's investigative and youth divisions.

Farenga will command the department's Staff Services Division, according to police.
Police Sgt. John Milligan and officer Roberto Lopez were both promoted to the roles of lieutenant and sergeant, respectively, during a special police commission meeting held May 3.

According to police, Milligan has served with the department for 22 years, during which he has filled the roles of patrol sergeant, acting lieutenant, dispatcher and school resource officer. He also serves as the union president.
Lopez has served with the department for 13 years and filled the roles of patrol officer, dispatcher, acting sergeant, firearms instructor, dispatcher trainer and field training officer. He is also a member of the SRT Team and serves as president of the Police Benevolent Association.
Milligan will be assigned as shift commander of the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift. Lopez will also be assigned to this shift, according to police.
