5 Vehicle Break-Ins Reported At Parks In New Canaan: Police

NEW CANAAN, CT — Purses, Apple AirPods, a wallet and other items were stolen from cars at parks in New Canaan on July 24, according to police.

In a news release, Chief of Police Leon Krolikowski said a New Canaan resident told police she parked her Subaru Forester at Irwin Park around 11:30 a.m. When she returned, she found the vehicle's rear passenger side window smashed and a bag containing medical equipment and supplies was missing.

Around 1 p.m., the owners of a Subaru Impreza parked at Waveny Park reported their vehicle had been forcibly entered by smashing the front passenger window.

The owners were visiting New Canaan from Michigan, Krolikowski said. A purse containing a driver's license, debit card, cash, credit cards and insurance cards was reported stolen.

Around 1:30 p.m., the owner of a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked at Waveny Park. The vehicle was locked, however the keys were left on the left rear tire, Krolikowski said.

The owner's purse containing a driver's license, bank card, wallet, gift cards and keys were reported stolen.

Around 2 p.m., a Bethel resident reported their Honda Pilot had been forcibly entered at Waveny Park by smashing the right rear window. A purse containing cash, debit cards, credit cards, a checkbook, school ID, an insurance card and keys were reported stolen from the vehicle, Krolikowski said.

Around 2:30 p.m., a White Plains, N.Y., resident reported their Honda CRV parked near the pool area of Waveny Park had been forcibly entered by breaking the front left window. A purse containing Apple AirPods and a coronavirus vaccination card were reported stolen from the vehicle, Krolikowski said.

According to Krolikowski, investigating officers are analyzing video footage of the areas where the break-ins occurred and are attempting to identify suspects.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes is asked to contact Police Sgt. Michael O'Sullivan at 203-594-3519.

"Thus far in 2022, we have investigated 22 larcenies from vehicles," Krolikowski said in a news release. "In the same time period in 2021, we investigated 26 larcenies from vehicles. "Please remember to always lock your vehicles and take the keys with you. Secure valuables; never leave valuables in your vehicle. Often, identity theft occurs when drivers' licenses and credit cards are stolen."
