NEW CANAAN, CT — Police are actively investigating recent TikTok posts directed at New Canaan High School and no credible threat has been identified, according to the New Canaan Police Department.

In a news release Monday, Chief of Police John DiFederico said detectives are working diligently to identify the individual or individuals responsible for the posts, which "included derogatory content and messages suggesting students stay home from school."

The investigation is being conducted in close coordination with the Connecticut Intelligence Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, DiFederico said.

"The department is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness while applying all available resources to bring it to a swift resolution," DiFederico said in a news release.

According to DiFederico, the department has identified the origination of the posts, which are out of state.

The department has also determined there is "no credible threat to New Canaan High School, the town of New Canaan or the broader community," according to DiFederico.

"The public is reminded that the community remains safe," DiFederico said.

According to DiFederico, extra police presence was visible at the high school Monday as a precautionary measure and officers will continue to monitor the situation closely.

"As a reminder, students and their families are reminded to be mindful to monitor what personal information they share about themselves and others on an online social media platform," DiFederico said, "many accounts are created anonymously with the only intent being malicious or controversial in nature."

The department continues to work collaboratively with NCHS administration and will provide updates as new information becomes available, DiFederico said.

"We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and residents," DiFederico said. "These
types of incidents will not be tolerated."

Anyone with information about the origin of these posts is
asked to contact the New Canaan Police Department immediately.

All tips will be kept confidential, DiFederico said.
