NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan reminds drivers to be cautious when traveling through work zones in town in light of National Work Zone Awareness Week.
According to the town website, National Work Zone Awareness Week takes place April 20–24 with the catchphrase "safe actions save lives."
"As we enter a new construction season, we ask that motorists pay additional attention on our roads, and elsewhere, whenever entering or passing thru a work zone," Director of Public Works Tiger Mann said in a statement. "We appreciate your help, patience and cooperation as we endeavor to maintain our town's infrastructure to the utmost standards."
According to the town, the American Traffic Safety Services Association states that nearly 900 lives are lost each year in work zone crashes, an important reminder that safety is everyone's responsibility.
This week's highlights to support work zone safety include "Go Orange/Wear Orange Day" on Wednesday and the use of social media hashtags #NWZAW and #Orange4Safety on Thursday, according to the town.
