NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Public Schools announced Tuesday the appointment of Alycia Rovinelli as the district's new K-8 science coordinator.
According to a news release provided by the district, Rovinelli assumes the position, effective July 1, following Melinda Meyer, who transitioned to the role of director of innovation and technology last year.
As the K-8 science coordinator, Rovinelli will oversee the design, development, implementation and evaluation of science curriculum for the district's elementary and middle school students, according to New Canaan Public Schools.
According to the district, Rovinelli is a dedicated educator who has spent the last 13 years of her career serving as science teacher for New Canaan Public Schools.
In her role at Saxe Middle School, "she has modeled effective instructional practices and implemented inquiry-based, hands-on science learning for district's intermediate and middle school students," the release reads.
Rovinelli has also been recognized for her leadership skills, acting as a mentor to her colleagues and being a representative for the district at state and regional-level science council meetings for assessment and instructional development, according to the district.
"Science education is essential to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the world around us," Superintendent Bryan Luizzi said in a news release. "Alycia's extensive classroom experience, deep understanding of our district's approach to teaching and learning and established leadership within our school community make her exceptionally well-suited for this role. We are confident that Alycia will continue to elevate our science program as Melinda has done to enrich the educational experiences of all students across New Canaan Public Schools."
Rovinelli holds a master of science in education from the University of New Haven and a bachelor of science in biology, with a minor in chemistry from Saint Joseph's College.
