NEW CANAAN, CT — In light of recent weather events, the town urges New Canaan residents to sign up for "alert" notifications, town officials said this week.
According to the town website, New Canaan sends out alert notifications to those who have signed up to receive them.
The alerts pertain to road closures, police activity, parking, fire prevention and local health issues, as well as deliver First Selectman Dionna Carlson's monthly "News From Town Hall" newsletter, according to the town.
Town officials noted the expanded alert notification system launched in early 2024.
The information is in addition to town-wide emergency alerts, including power outages and flooding, that go out to all households and others who sign up, according to the town.
Every New Canaan resident and businessperson is urged to visit newcanaanalerts.gov, register their contact information and select the topics of information they would like to receive from the town.
Those who sign up may choose to receive the alerts by email or text, according to the town.
Voice phone calls are used only during true emergencies and disasters, town officials noted.
Those who have registered can also change their selections or delete their account and unsubscribe at any time, according to the town.
