'Heavy Flooding' Reported On New Canaan Road, Police Urge Drivers To Avoid Area: PD

NEW CANAAN, CT — A road in New Canaan is experiencing heavy flooding as inclement weather moves through town Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

In a Facebook post around 12:30 p.m., police said Forest Street is experiencing heavy flooding, and drivers are asked to avoid the area and stay home of possible.

"Our area is currently under a flash flood warning," police wrote on Facebook. "Please do not drive in these weather conditions. If there is rising water, please get to higher ground."

Residents are also urged to text or call 911 in the event an emergency and to "keep an eye out for alerts from the town of New Canaan and Everbridge," according to police.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southern Fairfield County until 1:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday.

A flash flood warning has also been issued for southern Fairfield County and western New Haven County until 4 p.m.
